At TDE, We worked with Loren to ensure her ad set-up was correct. A lot has changed on that front in the past few years.

We also tested several audiences, different creative and messaging. The ads still weren’t driving results. This meant there had to be a deeper issue.

As a rule of thumb, if you’ve tested several different audiences and creative combinations and nothing is resonating with your audience, the issue generally lies with your offer.

In this case it was Loren’s lead magnet – it wasn’t something her ideal future students wanted.

We scheduled a strategy session with Loren, brainstormed new ideas and that’s when the The Colour Book was birthed, the lead magnet that would go on to become the masterpiece that would consistently bring Loren leads for 50c each (and 800 of them within a month and 2000 to date).

Your cost per lead shouldn't be your focus unless you are bringing in quality leads. It's better to pay more for a lead that will eventually be profitable, then buy cheap leads that go dormant.

MAP OUT YOUR CUSTOMER JOURNEY

Loren and I mapped out her buyer journey. We quickly realised from our own experiences as new business owners and Loren surveying her audience, that the side-hustlers and start-ups she was targeting either didn’t know what branding was or value it’s importance. Brand strategy simply wasn’t something her audience was looking for when first starting out.

What did they want?

New business owners wanted to create their own logo which meant selecting a font and brand colour themselves.

That was what was on their radar.

That’s when the idea of creating a colour palette guide for new business owners came to mind and boy was it a hit.

 

THE RESULTS OF THE FACEBOOK ADS TESTING AND OPTIMISATION PROCESS

Within minutes of the ad going live, leads were pouring in and haven’t stopped since.

When thinking about creating a topic for your lead magnet, consider what your ideal audience wants to know now so you can get them to a place where they are ready to buy from you and bridge that gap.

That way you attract aligned people that are in the right place in the customer journey (and will have a high probability of going on to buy).

Loren’s Colour Book gave her audience what they wanted (and needed) but also brought them to a place where they were ready to find out more about her brand strategy program.

Her audience skips over the strategy until they know their business is going to work and they understand the importance of branding. Only then are they ready to invest in the strategy to create a brand that will attract their ideal audience.

It’s so important to create a lead magnet that attracts your ideal audience at the right point in their customer journey.

 

FACEBOOK LEAD AD CREATIVE

Not long after Loren’s new offer going live, Loren rebranded her business to have a minimalistic aesthetic and adjusted her tone of voice and messaging to suit, which allowed her to attract the perfect fit audience into her offer even more.

When it comes to Facebook Ads (and any marketing in fact), it’s imperative to understand that it’s always an experiment. Even if you invest in ads at the start and don’t get results, you can always use the analytics from those campaigns to refine your future campaigns – testing different offers, audiences, creative and messaging.

Loren tested each of these components and was able to bring her cost per lead down to 50c from $10 within months, which is the second lowest consistently we’ve seen.
