8 Reasons Why You Need SEO To Grow Your Audience, Sales And Revenue

search engine optimisation Dec 23, 2021

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that your business needs SEO. Hands down, it’s the most practical and cost-effective way to reach customers when they are ready to buy. In case you need convincing, I’ve outlined the myriad of reasons why below.

Not only that but there have been so many changes to the digital landscape over the past years. It’s only fair that we address the elephant in the room: third party cookies. With their mass exodus, it’s only going to make advertising a bigger challenge particularly for smaller to medium sizes businesses with a less established audience.

Most brands and businesses like yours know they need to implement an SEO strategy but are surprisingly still holding back?

You know that SEO brings visibility, traffic, and the opportunity for conversions from well-seasoned searchers and buyers but what else do you need to know to be convinced that it’s the strategy that you need to implement stat.

I’ve outlined my top eight reasons why you need to consider implementing SEO in your business to take it to the next level.

1. ORGANIC TRAFFIC DELIVERED STRAIGHT YOUR DOORSTEP

Do you want traffic delivered straight to your website? Duh! It's an absolute no brainer. Organic search is the largest source of traffic to websites so why would you want a piece of the pie. This is of particular importance when you're a new business with a small audience and little budget for paid advertising. It's basically your gold ticket to success.

Setting up your SEO rights means you could have a steady stream of potential customers or clients hitting your site that are ready to convert.

We know that Google has majority market share when it comes to search engines so why not do all you can to please their algorithm. According to statcounter, it’s a whopping 92% market share over other known search engines like Bing, Yahoo and Baidu.

With an estimated 5.6 billion searches a day on Google and 70-80% of these going to organic search results (not paid) why wouldn’t you want to rank?

2. BUILDS TRUST WITH YOUR AUDIENCE

For a potential client or customer to be interested in doing business with you, they must first trust you. If search engines like Google trust you and place you in the top positions, then why wouldn't they?

It’s a known fact that ranking in the top positions in Google for the right keywords is no small feat. With over 200 ranking factors in their algorithm, it takes a lot for Google’s trust signals to rate you highly but when they do, it pays off big time. Not only that, we know from the stats that the top three positions in the search engine results are most likely to get the traffic (and see conversions take place).

Being visible and trusted by major search engines like Google will always work in your favour. It’s also pretty prestigious to be ranked up top by Google, not to mention great PR for your brand.

What are you implementing on your site to build trust and authority with your audience and score some of the juice from those top three positions?

3. IT HELPS UNDERSTAND USERS AT ALL POINTS OF THE CUSTOMER JOURNEY

Knowing your audience well and the types of keyword phrases they are typing in search engines like Google to find your products or services can tell us a lot about their intent (main goal for making the search), how familiar they are with your brand and where they are in the customer journey.

For example, is someone searching because they have a question they’d like answered or are they looking to visit a specific website or are they searching because they are ready to buy something. The type of search a user makes shows where they are in the customer (user) journey. The customer journey is the process of someone realising they need something to the moment they buy it or book a call, and even after.

Understanding this journey helps you better serve potential customers or clients. It allows you to create content for all stages of the journey in hope that it will lead them from the top of the sales funnel right down to the bottom into a conversion.

At the end of the day, users know what they’re looking for and it’s our job to help them find it, in the simplest way possible. That’s why it’s so important to select the right keywords for all different pages of our website. I guarantee it will help you attract the right kinds of customers or clients to your business no matter where they’re at in the buying journey.

To learn more about applying different keywords to different pages of your site to lead your audience from the top of the sales to the bottom, into a conversion read my blog '4 Types of SEO keyword search intent you must consider for your website'.

4. HELPS BUILD YOUR BUSINESS LOCALLY

It’s safe to say that nearly everybody has a mobile device they take everywhere with them, constantly communicating and searching for information on the go. When it comes to location searches, they are generally mobile (up to 74% of mobile device searches include a location in the search query), shocking right!

If you’re a small to medium local business and you’re looking for a great way to get more traffic, implementing a local strategy is a must. It’s the simplest and quickest way to get traffic to your page and grow an engaged audience locally.

Local SEO strategy involves optimising your website content for location searches, setting up a Google My Business profile as well as citation listings across several places on the web like directories. Take a read of my recent blog ‘What is local SEO and how does it boost your Google ranking? to find out how you can start showing up in local searches.

5. COST EFFECTIVE TO IMPLEMENT

SEO is extremely cost effective to implement and the only expense will be to your time unless you hire an SEO specialist to do it of course. But, you can totally do it yourself with my SEO program - SEO Made Easy. In return for your hard work, the pay-off is strong and trust me, it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Creating a technically sound website, with well optimised copy and quality backlinks will make it extremely hard for your competitors to knock you off the top positions in the search engines once you’ve claimed it. The best way to think of SEO is as an investment as opposed to a cost.

6. IT'S HERE FOR THE LONG HAUL

SEO is a long (and short) term strategy that when implemented right will pay dividends for years to come.

It's also unlikely that it’ll ever be going anywhere. Can you ever imagine a time when consumers won’t want to search for products or services online? Why not implement a strategy that lets you achieve sales for years to come for such a low investment?

And unlike any other form of paid advertising, the benefits continue to role in without any ad budget at all.

7. IT'S QUANTIFIABLE

What business owner or marketer do you know that doesn’t love data? Your return on investment from SEO can be calculated using tracking and analysis tools created by trusty search engines. Google has a whole suite of tools to help you measure results at all levels of the customer journey like Google Analytics.

It’s totally worth connecting the dots to see how all your hard work of implementing SEO is paying off. That way you can improve your traffic even more and continue to hit the ever-moving conversion goal posts. Personally, I love to identify patterns of what is working and what isn’t and we all know the data doesn’t lie. Even more that, you can see where you’ve come from to where you are now.

8. NEW OPPORTUNITIES ON THE HORIZON

SEO always has so much potential to bring new traffic to your site. From adding new pages, blogs and keywords to creating a stellar backlink strategy, there are so many ways to bring new eyeballs to your site using SEO. What's not to love.

Now more than ever it’s important to implement an SEO strategy and I’ve created a step-by-step course to help you do just that. There is no time like to present to get started so that Google can do all heavy lifting. Trust me, it will future proof your business.
